Today in choir I experienced an awkward moment we are all too familiar with. The classic birthday song... with a twist: you don't know whose birthday it actually is. So when they reach the part of the song that says the person's name...rather than not sing at all and save yourself from embarassment...you make strange grunting noises. I am sorry to admit...this is not the first time I have experience this. Maybe it's lack of paying attention, or checking birthdays on Facebook every morning...but it's very common for myself.
It usually goes like this..
*pianist begins playing all-too-familiar birthday tune or teacher and/or friend of birthday boy/girl starts it off*
Happy birthday to you (okay I'll figure out who's birthday it is eventually...no worries)
Happy birthday to you (well...this might not turn out so well)
Happy birthday dear (SHOOT), erhrnnennhh??? (that wasn't too embarassing)
Happy birthday to you (did I really just say erhnnennhh?)
The parentheses were my thoughts at the time. Classic awkward situation.
I just hope this doesn't happen to others on MY birthday.
Now THAT would be awkward.
Alas, I have about a month to teach everyone my name.
I think I can do it. Unlike that person today.
Lesson #1 in life: Speak up when it's your birthday to save all of us from embarassment, ya twit.
I hope you guys enjoyed my blog post. Pretty exciting stuff I must say.
More awkwardness to follow.
